Cycle Jamaica
Movement helps us move through what we feel stuck in.

In April 2025, I participated in Cycle Jamaica. This is an event where cyclists, new and experienced, come together to ride throughout the streets of Jamaica. What I experienced in Jamaica reminded me that movement does more than strengthen the body—it restores the mind and challenges fear. I witnessed firsthand the deeper impact of movement beyond physical activity.
In addition to participating in the group rides, I also stepped into an unexpected moment—cliff jumping—that required me to confront fear directly.
At the time, I had been navigating a period of mental and emotional stagnation, where external challenges had made it difficult to feel forward movement in my own life. Standing at the edge represented more than a physical decision—it represented a choice to move despite uncertainty. That moment of action created an immediate shift. Not because the external circumstances changed, but because movement disrupted the internal sense of being stuck. This experience directly reflects the mission of Velo Vybe.
Just as important, these experiences are not meant to happen in isolation. I brought a new cyclist, Abby, along with me to Cycle Jamaica, reinforcing a key principle of Velo Vybe: healing and growth are amplified in community.
Abby is a recent breast cancer survivor. Watching her tackle her fear of riding in a group for the first time and pushing herself to take the plunge off the cliff reinforced everything I want Velo Vybe to be: an organization that supports others in community and shifting physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Velo Vybe was created to provide accessible, community-based cycling experiences that support whole-person wellness. Many of the individuals we aim to serve, including women navigating life transitions, veterans, cyber victims, and justice-impacted populations, experience similar periods of stagnation caused by stress, trauma, systemic barriers, and invisible wounds.
Velo Vybe's goal is to disrupt that stagnation.
Through structured cycling experiences, reflective practices, and community support, we strive to:

-
rebuild confidence
-
regulate emotional stress
-
reconnect with a sense of forward movement
-
and engage in shared experiences that foster belonging
Support for Velo Vybe will allow us to expand these opportunities, ensuring that more individuals have access to safe, non-competitive environments where they can experience movement as a tool for restoration.
Because sometimes, the most important step forward… is simply choosing to move.
